What is Sufism?

		<theHtml>
Sufism is not a religion but a discipline that adjusts to the needs of the individual, the time and the place. Sufism is like the story of the blind men who discover an unknown animal and proceed to identify it.

One feels it's hide and says, "It is like a rhino." Another feels a section and says,
"It has wings."
The third says,
"It must be a large snake."
An elephant is difficult to describe if you only look at the parts.

Sufism is for those who seek a deeper understanding of Life, for those who ask the hard questions: Who am I? Why am I here? What is life and death? Why is there suffering?
</theHtml>

Why a Shaykh?

		<theHtml>

The Shaykh is your soul's gardener. S/he takes you from where you are right now, and uses your inner materials as fertilizer to grow your heart. Parts of you- the garden- need weeding, some need hoeing, planting, landscaping. The Shaykh represents your highest potential. By putting your trust in the Shaykh as a guide, you make the first step towards unifying yourself. On a personal basis, the Shaykh goes within you, sees the distinction between yourself and your True self, and helps you to initiate the process of unification.

        Much of what a shaykh deals with at the beginning involves trust.

        For many people, trust is an issue. In this society trust in not a very common virtue. The first step of learning is to learn to trust the guide. Trust is paramount before any other teaching can take place.

    Trust happens over time and through experience. You cannot trust Allah if you cannot trust your Shaykh. A shaykh sees you as you truly are. S/he sees through your clothes, your attachments, your nafs. Nafs is the ego matrix giving you the impression that you are your things, memories, habits. The shaykh sees you with your habits, and compares that to your true self. Part of a shaykh's job is to be a mirror for you. What you see is what you get, in this case. If you are scared, fear comes right back at you. If you love, love comes right back to you. In this and many other ways, your shaykh is here to help you overcome your nafs. Being a mirror to you is one of the quickest and perhaps most startling ways to break old habits. Imagine, for example, that you see yourself in a special kind of video, one where you can also hear your thoughts and see what is in your heart.

        The Shaykh is your best friend and your nafs' worst enemy.

        The teacher works with each person on an individual basis, and in a vocabulary that that person can understand. The Shaykh is like a taxi driver. You get on wherever you are, and the driver takes you where you want to go. The choice is always yours.

        At times, the Shaykh will talk directly to your soul (ruh) . The outer form may not understand as well as the inner soul. You may find yourself arguing, disagreeing, defending what you "know" to be right. Defense of yourself, however, is contrary to the goal of a spiritual discipline. Defending yourself indicates a lack of surrender, mistrust of your guide and reliance upon your nafs.

      It is like a piano teacher who has a student who, when they've made a mistake, argues with him about it:

"I did play an F sharp!"

        The teacher knows the truth, that without doubt, this student absolutely did make a mistake. The teacher records the session and plays it back and the student hears what he heard. Eventually, if there is perseverance, the student eventually begins to hear just the sound, not what is being imagined in the mind. You see, in music, just as in Sufism, when your mind and preconceived ideas are quieted, you can hear the sound (God, Allah, the Divine) without distraction, without attachment. Then you can place your heart into the sound and turn that sound into music.

        This is the same with a true spiritual teacher. Your time with your teacher is the same as a music lesson. What you've practiced so far (or not) is apparent and cannot be hidden.

        Through time and experience rabita develops. Rabita is the spiritual/mental/heart connection between you and another person. In Sufism the primary rabita is between the murid (student) and the Shaykh. Over time, many people experience a profound deepening of this connection. When you can begin to trust the spiritual teacher, it means that the process of surrender can begin. Surrender, in Sufism, is giving up what your nafs want and learning to listen to what Allah wants. In Christian mysticism this is "Not my will but Thine, Oh Lord." For some people, not even with death is the link with the teacher broken. At some point, there is the experience of Fana fa-Shaykh- losing your self through your Shaykh.

        This is an important step on the path of Sufism.

        The Shaykh's job is to help you prepare the soil to grow your heart-tree. Your heart- in its pure, cleansed state- is the greatest treasure you will ever have. The teacher knows its worth and works with you constantly to cleanse it of personal and cultural accretions. This is a labor of love and service. The Shaykh knows that when the heart is cleansed, it is as though a child is born. A child who sees, hears, speaks, and knows the languages of all living things. The rain of blessings showers down up a clean heart.

        A clean and pure heart is the beginning point for a dervish. When the eyes of the heart see the world and life for what they truly are, a new life has begun. That is why adab (right action) is so strongly taught. The heart-child is new and innocent, but because there is an awareness of the need for proper social interaction, harm because of wrong action is avoided. The heart child deserves our deepest respect, and so we prepare for that meeting with adab.

        How does the shaykh know how to do all this?

        A master teacher has gone through the same turmoil as you, and come out the other side. Where you feel you might need a little help and already know a lot, the master teacher knows that s/he knows very, very little and needs much help, but has learned to live with equanimity knowing that. Emptiness is the key here. Without emptiness Allah cannot pour blessings in. The Shaykh has visited the well of life and brought back the water for the thirsty to drink. Some complain about the cup, some say it is the wrong time of day to drink. Some say they don't like the cup-bearer. The point, of course, is who cares about any of that as along as one gets the water to drink. If you are thirsty, you want water. First, though, you must realize what thirst is and then discover that you are thirsty. Then find the water carrier.

        Being able to recognize a true teacher or Shaykh requires in itself a certain spiritual development. You must have developed enough humility and truth about yourself to ask for help. Asking for help means to leave your "independence" behind.

        Nasruddin walked into a bakery shop one day. He asked the salesperson, "Have you ever seen me before?"

"No." replied the baker.

"Well, then," said the Mulla, "How do you know it's me?"

        A spiritual discipline, like Sufism, is like any other discipline- be it music, sculpture, painting or plumbing- a time comes when you must seek out a teacher. This requires an emptying out of parts of yourself in order to take in new ways of thinking. You can't fill a full cup. This is an important moment, for the emptying requires humbling yourself to a higher authority. We Westerners have an especially difficult time of doing this. We think we are individuals and do not need anyone else-especially someone telling us what we don't want to hear. With John Wayne, Bruce Willis, and Sylvester Stallone as folk heroes, individualism plays a key role in the mythology of the self.

        How can you be really independent? Everything you wear, you eat, all the things you depend on are the result of and because of the works of others. There is no independence. We depend on each other in so many ways. It seems that when we can recognize our own strengths and weaknesses, when we have taken a fairly honest stock of ourselves, I think most of us would agree that we need help. We need help because we all have habits.

        Nasty habits. And we all need help going through them and picking out the ones we don't need. And to do that we need help plus.

        Professional help.

          If you don't think you need help, then, without doubt, you need professional help even more. This is a job you cannot do by yourself. Remember, though, that is not the product but the process. The goal is to be at peace with God, to walk always with God, to know God, and to be grateful to God. A Shaykh may be able to help.

          For more information see your local Shaykh.

About Shaykh Ibrahim

	<theHtml>

Bismillah er Rahman er Rahim

It seems antithetical to write a biography of one's spiritual journey. In Sufism we work on becoming less and less, to die before you die, but in the world of media and lectures, people want to know who you are, what degrees you have, who you know, and how much more you are than others doing the same thing. In spiritual work, it is who you are not that is most meaningful. Doing real spiritual work necessarily makes one humble as you face the enormous Truth of the Unity of the Creation. It is with great reluctance that I inform you about my "self".

  My whole life I have sought answers. I wanted to know if there was a God. I wanted to know why there is pain and suffering, why people hurt each other, why there are wars and what holds everything together. In a sense I was driven to Sufism. I looked for answers everywhere. I searched by studying Tibetan Buddhism, Zen, Hinduism, Kabala, Alchemy, Masons, Rosicruscianism, Judaism, Christianity, Teachings of Don Juan, Magic, and many other shops of spirituality.... I also went to various spiritual teachers, sacred spaces and events. I learned many things and had many insights.
When I read The Sufis by Idries Shah, things started making more sense. I began a new search - one for a true teacher. It would be 20 years later that I would finally find my Shaykh, Taner Ansari. Through my Shaykh and the teachings of the Qadiri-Rifa"i Tariqa came the answers, slowly, and with a continually deeper understanding. When I was young I asked God many times to teach me how to do His will. When I separated from my 2nd wife, I saw an ad in the newspaper. I answered it. It was someone leading zikrs. I went and learned and asked questions. Finally my Shaykh came to visit. I could feel a door opening for me.

During those 20 years before I met my Shaykh, I took courses in Kabala, Tibetan Buddhism, Sanskrit, Anthropology of World Religions, eventually receiving a BA degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz in Performance Integration of World Myths and Musics. Later I received an MA in Music Composition from Mills College in Oakland.

I have been a musician and composer almost my entire life - that's about 45 years of practicing and performing and recording. Music and those years of experience have taught me much about self-discipline, and without it I would not have understood the way of Sufism or other true paths. It has become more and more clear to me that it is important for Americans to be able to delineate the difference between true paths and false, and to understand the need for long-term commitment to a true path. As our society tries to adapt to overpopulation and the continued greed of capitalism, the need for an ethical and spiritual reality makes itself not only apparent but also vital to the soul of America. True paths such as Sufism and Buddhism offer a remedy of mercy and compassion in a heart-starved world.

I offer my services to the spiritual communities, as Khalifa of the Qadiri-Rifa'i Tariqa, and through gracious permission of my Shaykh, Taner Ansari, I have been ordained as a Shaykh to continue these teachings.

Becoming A Student

		<theHtml>
In our tariqa our focus is Allah only. Our example of a human being and how to behave is the Prophet Muhammad, pbuh. Our manual for living is the Holy Quran.

Our path is not an easy path, because you must battle your nafs (selfish ego and its desires and its shirk, etc) and Shaytan's whispering and the doubts you may encounter. You must learn to trust in Allah only and where and how Allah leads you. You must surrender to Allah's will.

Our path is a path of action. Talk little, act more. We learn Allah in our life. We must hold on to the rope of Allah and not let go. We do not believe blindly. We ask questions and investigate until we know internally. In our path we learn for the inside out. We get the learning, and the behavior follows.

Our path is about adab, proper behavior in all situations, through adversity and good times. In adversity we still hold on to the rope of Allah. The student gets individual attention and lessons. The student is a sincere person who wants Allah only and is willing to go through the fire without letting go of the rope of Allah.

Our path is the path of love. The shortest distance between you and Allah is love. We learn through love, not fear. Our only fear is that Allah will dismiss us from Allah's service.

Are you willing to hold fast to the rope of Allah? Are you ready to take the step to polish your heart, clean your nafs, surrender to Allah though it may be very difficult?

The students whom we guide must be active in their path. There is no "abra kadabra" boom! you are "enlightened". It is hard and difficult work because Allah wants only the sincere, believing people for Himself. Look at what the most beloved people of Allah had to endure and go through. The prophets, I mean. Allah is merciful enough that He won't give us such a journey, but fighting our nafs is difficult enough. If you are ready for such a journey, then you may belong to us. Shaykh Taner may be your guide and teacher.

There is one more thing:

The teachings are free, but getting the teachings to you costs money (email accounts, phone bills, publications, computers and software, rent, electricity, etc.). That is why it is required that the murid pay a
monthly tithe to the tariqa. Tithe and donations are the main source of income for the tariqa. The suggested monthly tithe is $50.00. If you can afford more, donate more. If you have limited income, then donate less.

We look forward to your reply.

Sufism - Frequently Asked Questions

		<theHtml>
Is Sufism a cult?

A cult is generally defined as a free-floating, one-time, single-teacher oriented religion. Sufism is considered to have begun when Abraham figured out that his father's idols didn't create the world. The teachings have been handed down from teacher to teacher, (the Silsillah) since then. Every Shaykh must be given permission by his Shaykh to teach.

In Sufism, the Shaykh:

Follows the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)

Acts from Sunnah (how Mohammed dealt with the world)

Points to Allah and not him/herself

Does not force students to give money

Must not be in intimate relationship with murids (students)

Must be a Wali- receive knowledge from the unseen and the lineage of Shaykhs

Practices what s/he preaches

Speaks what's in your heart

You feel your troubles lifted

Your heart is content and you want to hear more from him/her

What do you mean by Allah?

    When we mention the name Allah, we are referring to God. God the Creator, who has no gender, who has no beginning, no end, Who exists everywhere in everything, and who is Greater than you can imagine.

What are nafs?

Nafs is the collections of opinions and adaptations you have made over your life that makes you think you are you. It is an ego matrix that interferes with you hearing your heart and Allah. There is an unending blessing of light and love constantly pouring down upon you, but your nafs interferes with this light. So the idea of sufism is to help you get out of your own way. To do that, you need to recognize your nafs, and gain control over them. To help you with that recognition and mastery you need a teacher.

What is Zikr?

A dervish tries to be aware of Allah at all times, in all situations. This is called Remembrance - Zikr. Zikr is done internally and externally. In sufism this is also done individually and in a group ceremony. A zikr is a sufi ritual where the names of Allah are chanted, with Ilahis - songs about Allah and the prophet Mohammed (pbuh), and the founders of the order, and other prophets. A sohbet is a more informal social gathering where seekers come to discuss Allah and the teachings of the Tariqat- the school of sufism. By continually repeating the names of Allah, we are constantly reminded that we are witnessing a miraculous event that we have been invited to be a part of - Life. By bringing into our awareness the beautiful and compassionate aspects of Allah, we partake of these parallel natures, just as if we were to walk in a garden of roses, our clothes and hair would also be imbedded with this sweet smell. However if we were to walk through stables or pig sties, we would leave with that odor upon us. Fortunately, we have a choice. During Mohammed's life, Abu Bakr (1st Khalifa) and Ali (4th Khalifa) established zikrs.

Do you have to be a Muslim to be a sufi?

        Islam is the religion of surrender. To be a Muslim (mu-islam) means one who surrenders. You cannot be a sufi without surrender.

Do you need a Shaykh?

        Yes. See "Why A Shaykh?"

How do you know the right shaykh for you?

Your shaykh:

Will speak what's in your heart

You will feel your troubles lifted

Your heart is content and you want to hear more from him/her.

When you find the right Tariqa, it will feel like you have come home.

I've heard about sufi dancing. Is that what you do?

God has bestowed on his creation many ways to joy and exhaltation-I speak primarily here of outer beauty/majesty; like song, dance, the beauty of the voice, calming essence of nature, laughter etc....What role do such activities play in the world? I know in many traditions that song and dance can be frowned upon as disrespectful and for others it is integral, I have witnessed and experienced the joy of such things...the joy not of raw visceral sensory pleasure but you know those moments of...connection I suppose to something other than yourself. I know that music and movement are aspects of this path, how and why are they important? When can they be of decrease for the murid and or the everyday person?

Music and Dance can be disciplines and paths for understanding the self and Allah. Music is an extremely demanding discipline that requires patience, fortitude, and a good teacher.

You need to ask: what is the purpose of the music or dance? There are many purposes:

entertainment

soothing

nostalgia

weddings, funerals and other Rites of Passage

martial

courtship

Rituals and Religious

Joy, Sorrow and other expressions of feelings

  There are more purposes. The purpose of music and dance can be a distraction rather than an enhancement or focus. It depends on the purpose. In zikr, we use movement and music and sound to focus our attention on Allah. If it were a wedding, the music would be first to focus our attention on the cultural form of the ritual because, of course, a wedding is culturally based and biased with specific cultural attachments and expectations.

  Often, at certain stages of development, it is better for a student who is seeking spiritual knowledge to forego music and dance because it is a distraction. At other points along the path, it might be better for the student to go and be a rock and roll star. It depends on that student's needs and character. Generally, it can be said for a sufi that if it helps to praise and remember Allah through music, then it certainly is a good thing to do. It depends on the murid's shaykh to determine whether it is the right thing.

  The basic determining factor is what the purpose or intention is. Is that intention carried through? Take for example some people who say that they pray to God through music and dance. However, when you look within their hearts, if you see that they are thinking "how beautiful and spiritual I am", then the intention and result are not congruent and you have instead, a nafs party.

  We want to avoid giving the nafs strength and power. So we do the things that they don't like. Fasting, praying, being generous, patient, tolerant, remembering Allah.

Arabic Roots of the word Sufi:

suf - wool, woolly; a hair cloth used by penitents in the early days of Islam
sufiy - wise, pious
sufi - woolen
safa - purity
safi- pure
</theHtml>

Sufi Healing

		<theHtml>

Healing at the Rifa’i Sufi Healing Centre

Nothing happens without energy. Sufi Healing works directly with energy that manifests both within your body and around you. Health is when energy is balanced in the body. Illness occurs when the energy falls out of balance.

Sufi Healing works with the energy connection within your body to correct that imbalance and how to instruct the body to utilise its natural resources by means of focus and intention. You do not need to be a Sufi, nor do you need to believe - except in your own ability to heal.

Our current practice is based on Master Taner Ansari’s book and workshops: Alternative Healing: The Sufi Way plus ongoing research with other alternative healings such as acupuncture and other traditions.

In our initial diagnosis we gather information from scientific tests, X-rays, chemical analyses and doctors’ reports. We use muscle testing and emotional cleansing to help clear away problems that are not dealt with in other methods.

Treatments range from nutrition, prayer, physical, emotional, spiritual counseling and cleansing.

As part of our service, we offer you tools and products for self-healing and to learn to be self-reliant, and less stressful.

Our practice covers physical, mental, and non-physical difficulties. In the initial consultation we review your situation and diagnose the problems.

Our consultation rates are based on property rental and upkeep, phone, utilities, internet, time, research, training and experience. We prepare 24 hours in advance for each visit.

In some cases we are able to provide distance healing.

If you are interested in a consultation, please fill out the form on this page. For more information, please email or call us - see our contact page.

Healing Testimonials

			<theHtml>

I have been dealing with anxiety and depression for years. After the healing sessions at the Rifa'i Sufi Healing Centre, I am much clearer and able to manage my condition more successfully. You have given me hope!

Galea 2009

While on a visit to the Rifai Sufi Healing Center, I mentioned a chronic joint problem with a wrist that had been broken some ten years before. I had simply accepted the occasional weakness and unexpected bouts of shooting pains since I had the cast removed years before. With the help of the center, I went through a healing and body inquiry session. Since then, I have had no problems with my wrist, and the suggestions for diet and exercise has strengthened the rest of my joints.

Suleiman 2009

Have gone to Shaykh Ibrahim for Sufi healing for a long list of chronic symptoms that goes with a condition called fibromyacgia. Sufi healing does actually work – at times it seems miraculous. After living with strong pain throughout each day, the occasional episdodes of pain are now very manageable. The first time Shaykh Ibrahim completely removed some strong period cramps, I was so astonished that I hardly knew how to say thank you. I remember thinking ‘it can’t have been Shaykh - must have been something else’. Nowadays, I take very little asthma medication and can use my arms again. I’m back to using a computer. Have forgotten what it feels like to live with daily nausea.

Along with the actual Sufi healings I’ve been given an armory of preventative ‘tools’ or ‘weapons’. Rather than getting despondent about having a ‘serious chronic condition that I have to put up with’, I go straight into ‘preventative’ or ‘fix it’ mode. Healing, and living well, continues to be an extraordinary journey.

Mayne 2009

As a form of energy healing, it helped me to identify and clear some deep-rooted emotional blockages.

Master Taner Ansari on Sufi Healing

			<theHtml>

Interview with Sufi Master Taner Ansari

By Shaykh Kevin Germain

The Sufi Master, Shaykh Taner Ansari, Pir of the Qadiri Rifai Tariqa, has recently written a book on Sufi healing methods called “Alternative Healing: The Sufi Way.” Interviewer Shaykh Kevin Germain is the book’s editor.

Can you tell us a little about this kind of healing or medicine and how it differs from other methods of treating ailments?

Sufi healing is complementary to other methods. Our way is to begin by using natural methods. We treat in this manner because there is a balance between the spiritual and the material arenas and we try to leave it undisturbed as much as possible. When something is taken from the spiritual world and given to the material world, that balance is disturbed.
This is why we want to keep everything as natural as possible.

First, we send patients to physicians who practice Western medicine. We use all means of healing that are available to us, such as herbs, massage, diet, acupuncture and pharmaceutical drugs. It is only when these methods are exhausted that we turn to spiritual healing techniques.

Can you tell us how you became involved in Sufi healing?

Part of the job of being a Sufi master is healing people, helping them as much as we can. One time I had to heal my son’s leg; that was how I found out I could do this.

Can you give us some other examples of healings you have done?

My students are compiling case studies of some of my patients. These should be available soon.

Can people who aren’t Sufis use these methods?

Yes. I wish you asked: what is your aim?

Good question. What is your aim?

To give connection to people who aren't Sufis so that they can have a spiritual connection to our Pirs—the founding fathers of our order—and through them, to the Almighty God, who is the energy of all.

In your book Alternative Healing: The Sufi Way, you mentioned the necessity for being connected to a Sufi master and also the need for having attained a certain degree of spiritual station or maqaam, as you call it. Can you share with us how this might work for those of us who aren't Sufis?

They will still have a spiritual connection with us. When a healer calls on us spiritually, through prayer and heart connection, we will give him or her the energy needed to do the job.

You will channel it?

Yes, channel. They won't be the ones really doing the healing; we are the ones who will be doing that. They call on us and we provide the spiritual energy.

How much training might it take for someone to use these techniques successfully?

It doesn't take too long. They have to memorize some written prayers, they have to know how to use herbs and they need to learn the Names of Allah. These Names are different energies that have distinct properties.

In your book, you also describe the need for the healer to "talk" to the body, or even to the DNA. How does this work?

For this, the healer has to be evolved. That means that the healer has to be able to hear spiritually what the body says. Not everybody can do that. That is why we have other methods as well, such as muscle testing.

Talking to the body, which we call rabita, is done by making a spiritual connection with it or with a specific organ. It is a kind of subliminal communication on a finer level than normal. The center of this connection is the heart.

This happens because Allah, as Creator of all, is in touch with and knows everything. As you get closer to Allah, you can tune into His/Her/Its energetic lines of communication. These channels are open to you, too. You get a connection to the main energy, which in science we call the Absolute, also known as God or Allah.

Is Sufi healing related to traditional Islamic medicine?

Yes, and to much older methods as well. Our healing methods didn't start with Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him; they began with Adam, and developed through Kabbalah, Gnosticism, through a long line of accumulated knowledge.

How do you envision the different practitioners putting Sufi healing into practice?

This is important for them. This is why I want to teach it to physicians so that they can have a broader spectrum of knowledge with which to help their patients. If they are scientists, they should not have closed minds. They should accept that there is more than one way of doing things. This is another way of healing. If they know this, they can better help their patients. Isn't that the goal?

I have trained doctors and psychologists in Sufi healing methods, which they now incorporate into their practice. I would like physicians who practice Western medicine to try this, because for certain problems there is no cure in Western medicine. Take epilepsy for example. In Sufi healing, the cure is actually fairly simple. Western science can do nothing about it but I am able to cure it in one day.

If a doctor knows this, why wouldn't he use it? It is not harmful to the patient or to the doctor— it is just a prayer that the physician says. Why would it be undignified or stupid to make a prayer?

Healing by prayer has been studied through experimentation. Scientists have taken test groups of patients, prayed on them loudly and the patients recovered faster than others who were not prayed on. Some may say that's just a placebo effect. But the fact is that they pray on the subjects without letting them know, and still they are cured. And faster than others, as well.

This is not hocus-pocus. There is a science to Sufi healing, too. Western doctors study for many years to learn their profession and I have also studied for many years to learn my healing techniques. I have been studying this for 37 years. I have a degree from my school. You may not recognize it, but it is a degree.

We don't have to talk about the effectiveness of our healing methods: we can prove it. If in some cases it doesn't work, it costs the patient no pain or suffering. When our methods work, the patient is healed.

Do you have anything else you would like to add?

We want to give this connection to people who really want to help others. Our workshops are for this purpose—not to give extra knowledge to someone who isn't going to use it. We want our students to act with it.

The world is heading into a bad place. When there are no doctors, when social structures break down, Allah's wish is for there to be some healers around the world who can help people in any condition, with whatever they have available. That is the knowledge we are sharing.

Can you tell us who Geylani and Rifai are?

Abdul Qadir Geylani is the founding father of the Qadiri Tariqa, which is a Sufi path founded in the 12th century. He is a descendant of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. He is a very powerful person.

Ahmed er Rifai, his cousin, is the founder of another Sufi order called the Rifai Tariqa. The real healer is Ahmed er Rifai. He is the one we will be working with; spiritually, we talk to him. You may not believe this, but that's up to you. We channel Allah's energy through his energy, so he is the healer. Abdul Qadir Geylani and Ahmed er Rifai are generous. They are opening their connection to anyone who wants to do healing.

So the healing doesn't really come from the tariqa. It comes from Allah, from God?

Yes, it comes from Allah but Allah has assigned these people to do it and they have assigned us on the earth to do it as well—through channeling their energy.

Sufism is purification of one's ego, to open the modem to the Absolute/God/Energy, who has no form. He is in every form but no form can contain Him. This is Sufism.

Did it start with Muhammad and Islam? No, it started long before that. In the Christian world, these people are called Gnostics (like Quakers or Shakers); in Judaism, this spiritual path is called Kabbalah. Jesus studied Kabbalah and he studied Buddhism with Buddhists.

Our path is an international, multicultural essence of what to do and how to achieve unity with Allah. That is the true knowledge: the science of transcending your consciousness and identity, and attaining consciousness of the Big Identity. You don't lose your identity, you surrender it to the Absolute.

What is our purpose as Sufis on earth? We are not trying to convert people to any religion. We want to convert people to Allah, to give them a connection to Allah in their hearts, so they won't be lonely.

Our purpose is peace, love and togetherness—unity—and helping each other, that is all. We don't want war, we don't want violence. We want knowledge, wisdom, connection, to do things that are for the sake of the Whole, the Absolute—not expecting anything in return, but simply because it is the right thing to do.

Grand Masters of Sufism brings together in one volume two paramount texts from two of the most influential shaykhs in the history of Sufism. Grounded in the essence of Islam, the book is aimed at Western readers with the universalist message of tasawwuf that itself draws on the wisdom of the kabbalah and Gnosticism. As the Preface states: "It is a brief synthesis of teachings on the Sufi path, culled from the vast repository of divine knowledge, and tenderly secured in the heart of Shaykh Taner Ansari"

Donations

<theHtml>

The Ansari Sufi teachings are free, but getting the teachings to you
      costs money (email accounts, phone bills, publications, computers,
      software, rent, electricity, etc.). Tithe and donations are the main source of
      income for the tariqa. For students of the tariqa, the suggested monthly tithe is $50.00. If you can
    afford more, please donate more. If you have limited income, then donate less, and perhaps help us out in other ways.

We also gladly welcome any assistance from the public - if you would like to donate to us, see below. If you think you might be able to help us in other ways, please contact us. If you like, you can click view our wishlist (PDF format), which is a list of some things we need for the healing centre we are building and for our current centre in Sydney's Blue Mountains.

Donations can be made to the Ansari Sufi Order using credit card or your PayPal account. Please click on the button below to make a donation:
